President John Dramani Mahama has drawn on his 34‑year marriage to First Lady Lordina Mahama to share a lesson on patience and understanding in relationships. Addressing the Men’s Ministry Day celebration at the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, August 2, 2026, he recounted a disagreement with Mrs. Mahama during their 30th wedding anniversary.
The dispute centered on who had contributed more to sustaining their marriage, and a friend who overheard advised him to concede, remarking, “This argument, you can never win.”
President Mahama explained that the experience underscored the importance of humility, patience, and mutual respect in marriage. He urged couples to treat their spouses with dignity, noting that the way partners relate to one another reflects their faith and shapes the values passed on to their children.
President Mahama also encouraged couples to nurture strong family bonds and demonstrate values that promote love, understanding and responsibility within the home.
