What Do Men Want In A Relationship

Getting into a relationship is a big decision that you should take after proper consideration. You need to give some time to yourself and your partner to check if you both are made for each other. Relationships are all about valuing and respecting each other’s emotions. So, before entering into a relationship, there are several important things that you should consider:

Forget your past

If your experience has been bad regarding relationships, then first understand that not everything is meant to be forever. Try to forget your past as it can affect your current relationship. Remember everything happens for a reason and if something does not work out, then there must be a reason behind it. So, from now on, attempt to let go of negative feelings and memories that you’d prefer to forget.

Your readiness for a relationship

Are you emotionally ready to invest time, energy, and emotions into a relationship? Make sure that you are not still healing from a past relationship or dealing with personal issues that could affect your ability to commit to someone.

Compatibility

Do you and your potential partner share similar values, goals, and interests? It is important to make sure that you are compatible with your partner to ensure a healthy and fulfilling relationship.

Don’t skip the sex talk!

This should go without saying, but if you’re not comfortable talking to your partner about sexual health (including STD testing, history, etc.), then you’re not ready to be intimate (or maybe they’re not someone you should be intimate with). Discuss your likes, dislikes, and what you are comfortable with while listening to theirs without judgment. Oh, and don’t forget that the “right time” to be intimate is different for every couple (forget about the “three-date rule” or any other popular guidelines), and remember that just one partner feeling ready is not enough.

Communication skills

Are you and your potential partner able to communicate effectively? Good communication skills are essential for a healthy relationship, so make sure that you can communicate honestly and openly with your partner.

Trust

Can you trust your partner, and can they trust you? Trust is crucial in any relationship, so make sure that you are willing to be open and honest with your partner and that they are willing to do the same.

Time and energy

Are you willing and able to invest time and energy into a relationship? Relationships take work, so make sure that you are prepared to make time for your partner and prioritize your relationship.

Deal breakers

What are your deal breakers in a relationship? Make sure that you have clear boundaries and know what you will not tolerate in a relationship.

Keep Jealousy From Ruining Your Relationships

After being in an unhealthy relationship where cheating was involved, it can be challenging to not jump to conclusions the next time around. Jealousy, of course, isn’t confined to love, it could be in regards to a coworker that got a promotion over you, it could be to the sibling that gets all the praise, or even directed toward the friend that looks flawless one hundred percent of the time. In more extreme cases, jealousy can lead to possessiveness in a relationship, and that’s unhealthy behaviour! There’s no need to compare yourself to other people — keep on being you and hold your head high.

Manage Stress

Finding healthy ways to cope with stress is important in all aspects of life, not just relationship building. Stress management may include a yoga class, a simple walk around the park, or even a quick journal entry at the end of each day — do whatever helps you unwind. Too often we take out our stresses on the people close to us, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Finding healthy ways to cope with stress outside of your relationship only makes the unwinding at the end of the day with your S.O. that much better.  Bringing stress into the relationship only creates more stress — it’s a cycle. Having solid stress management skills will help prevent you from snapping at your partner.

By considering these factors before entering into a relationship, you can help ensure that you are setting yourself up for a healthy and fulfilling partnership.
