NPP Flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has hailed former Dome‑Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo as a “woman king” for her resilience in ensuring a peaceful and dignified funeral for her late father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and Kantanka Group, despite family disputes and legal challenges.
Dr Bawumia made the remarks when Adwoa Safo and her family visited his residence to express gratitude for his presence at the funeral. He acknowledged that tensions surrounding the rites had caused widespread concern, but commended the family’s unity and determination in preventing disagreements from overshadowing the final farewell.
“The kind of news and information we were hearing got us all worried and scared, but I commend you for standing firm and organising the funeral very well. As you said, you are the Woman King,” he stated. He noted that the family’s efforts brought relief to many who feared the disputes could mar the solemn occasion.
“If it hadn’t happened that way, a lot of things would have been spoilt. We are now relieved for how well the funeral was organised.” Turning directly to Adwoa Safo, Dr Bawumia praised her resolve, saying, “You say you are a woman king; I am very happy because the turn of events was very problematic. But you all stood firm and made everything go well.”
He also recalled attending the thanksgiving service, where he witnessed a rainbow in the sky, which he interpreted as a positive sign. “We all know the late Apostle was very happy. We thank God and thank you very much.”
