Police have arrested two suspects, including the alleged leader of the gang, in connection with the armed attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus that claimed the life of a player. In a statement issued late Wednesday (April 15), the police confirmed that one of the suspects sustained injuries during a shootout with officers and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to the statement, “The Police have arrested the gang leader and one other suspect in connection with the robbery incident that led to the death of the Berekum Chelsea footballer.”
The attack occurred around 10:30 p.m. as the team was returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against Samartex 1996 at Samreboi. Six armed men reportedly blocked the bus and opened fire, forcing the driver to veer off the road into nearby bushes. The VIP bus, carrying about 30 players and officials, was left under siege as players and staff fled into the darkness for safety.
