The Ghana Gas Processing Plant has encountered a technical issue due to a complete failure of the Burner Management System controller associated with the Heat Medium System. This malfunction has resulted in an emergency shutdown and a reduction in gas supply to thermal power plants. In a joint press release issued on April 15, 2026, Ghana Gas and the Ghana Grid Company announced that the affected system is severely damaged and will need to be fully replaced.
The statement read, “The public is hereby informed that the Ghana Gas Processing Plant has experienced a significant technical fault following the complete failure of the Burner Management System controller for the Heat Medium System. Preliminary assessments indicate that the affected system is damaged and will require a full replacement.”
The unforeseen development has necessitated an emergency shutdown of the plant, resulting in a temporary curtailment of gas supply to thermal power plants. Consequently, power supply disruptions have been reported in some parts of the country. A comprehensive technical and safety risk assessment is currently underway to determine the most effective and secure pathway for restoring operations in the shortest possible time.
“A dedicated team of engineers is working diligently, around the clock, to replace the damaged system and expedite the restoration process,” the release stated. Subject to the outcome of ongoing assessments, Ghana Gas will commence processes to restore operations within the course of today, April 16, 2026.
The public has been urged to bear with the company during this period of disruption. “We will continue to provide timely updates as the situation evolves. The public is kindly urged to bear with us during this period of disruption. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” the statement concluded.
The release was signed by the Corporate Affairs Directorates of both GNGC and GRIDCo.
