The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has appealed to politicians to refrain from comments that could fuel the Bawku conflict. Bawku has seen renewed fighting this month. Two persons have been confirmed dead, and several others injured in a shooting incident that occurred in Bawku in the Upper East Region.
One person died on the spot during the shooting incident that occurred close to the Bawku police station on Wednesday (17 January), while the second person died on Thursday. Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show Wednesday (24 January), Yakubu said, ” We have advised all the politicians, both NPP and NDC, to be mindful of their utterances.”
“This Bawku conflict predates independence, so we are trying hard to ensure peace reigns.” “We have instituted a committee to look into this allegation as REGSEC, and we have met all the elders, chief, women’s group, youth, and politicians to come up with a lasting solution,” Yakubu added.
