Former boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, commonly known as Ayitey Powers, has been arrested by the police for allegedly making a death threat. The Accra Regional Police Command issued a statement on Monday evening indicating that the 46-year-old former professional boxer was apprehended over a threat directed at Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority.
The police reported that the arrest occurred on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the circulation of a video on social media in which Ayitey Powers is alleged to have made the threat. He is currently in police custody and is assisting with the investigation.
Authorities are conducting an inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and to determine the appropriate legal actions. The Accra Regional Police Command has also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information as the investigation continues.
