Prof. Ransford Gyampo appointed Acting CEO of Ghana Shippers Authority

Ransford Gyampo, a Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority. This decision was made by President John Dramani Mahama, positioning Prof. Gyampo to take over from Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the previous Akufo-Addo administration in December 2024. A distinguished academic and political analyst, Prof. Gyampo is anticipated to leverage his knowledge in governance and public administration to guide the Authority, which plays an essential role in overseeing Ghana’s shipping and logistics industry.

Born on 31 March 1977 in Accra, Prof. Ransford Edward Van Gyampo has carved a distinguished career in academia, governance, and public policy, culminating in his recent appointment as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority. Prof. Gyampo is a Professor of Political Science and Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana, with two decades of teaching and research experience.

He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana, complemented by advanced studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA. His academic focus spans governance, leadership, democratic development in Ghana and Africa, youth empowerment, natural resource management, electoral studies, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and building resilient peace in Africa.

A visiting scholar at the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of South Florida and a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bristol, Prof. Gyampo has made significant contributions to global scholarship. Before his current academic role, he dedicated 14 years to the Governance Unit of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), where he rose from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow.

During his tenure, he spearheaded critical socio-economic and governance research projects, providing evidence-based policy recommendations to address Ghana’s most pressing challenges. Through his research and thought leadership, Prof. Gyampo has shaped national discourse, leveraging roundtables and media platforms to influence policy and governance reforms.
