Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has pledged his commitment to improving the working conditions of public sector employees in Ghana. He emphasised the necessity for fair and equitable wages and proposed policy measures aimed at enhancing productivity while ensuring public workers receive competitive salaries. Dr. Pelpuo commended the dedication and hard work of Ghanaian workers for their role in driving the nation’s economy.
Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, he stated: “I’m sure you are talking about fair payments for work done, and the need to reconcile the fact that you’re producing and may not be producing hard enough to earn what you are doing and how do we reconcile it.
I think it’s a major area and I will be tackling it. I’m happy I will do it if you do approve my nomination because it’s a big question for all Ghanaians. “I know that the Ghanaian worker is very conscientious, very committed, very hardworking. But we need a kind of policy direction to help him produce more so that we can pay and know that we’re paying something worthwhile. We will be committing ourselves to working at it.”
