Marriage Must Be Built on Strong Pillars – Rev. Daniel Annan

Reverend Daniel Annan, Marriage and Relationship Counsellor and Resident Pastor at Universal Gospel Center, has underscored that marriage is divinely ordained to reflect God’s nature and glory. He emphasised that couples must grasp the spiritual purpose of marriage and build their unions on firm principles to thrive.

“The purpose of God for marriage was that He would manifest Himself through us. In essence, marriage is meant to reveal who God is and His glory,” he explained on Joy Prime’s Let’s Talk show, during a discussion about misconceptions surrounding marriage. Rev. Annan noted that a strong union rests on several pillars, including the God factor, vision and purpose, communion, communication, and joy. “Every marriage must stand on certain pillars,” he stressed.

He further highlighted that understanding one’s personal purpose is essential in choosing the right partner and avoiding marital challenges. “If you don’t know what you are up for, you will likely choose the wrong partner and eventually crash,” he cautioned.
He also pointed out that men genuinely seek three key qualities from their partners: a helper, fulfilling intimacy, and wise counsel

Reverend Daniel Annan emphasised that women must first understand the genuine needs of men, noting that “every man is truly seeking a helper.” He highlighted the importance of effective communication in relationships, advising women to approach their partners with appreciation rather than anger. “Say, ‘I love the way you do things; you are a great man. But perhaps you could try it this way or add this to it.’ Leave it to the man—he will reason,” he explained.

On the subject of submission, Rev. Annan stressed that it remains a vital pillar of marriage, pointing out that men were placed in the role of leadership. “It doesn’t matter who you are; you were brought from here. You can never be equal to a man. No,” he said, adding that even when a woman contributes financially to the household, “he’s still the man.”

Fundamentally, he underscored that couples must understand God’s purpose for marriage and build their unions on biblical principles. Doing so, he noted, equips them to withstand challenges and ensures that their marriage reflects God’s glory
