The headmistress of Chemu Senior High School has voiced concerns about the challenges students are facing due to inadequate infrastructure at the school. Vicentia Annin-Agyei stated, “Some of our students have to find nearby homes to rent in order to attend school, which presents another significant challenge.”
She continued, “Some of the students are even living with their boyfriends and girlfriends, which presents a challenge for us.” She clarified that many students do not intend to find themselves in such situations; rather, they are compelled by their circumstances. “Some are forced into these situations not by choice, but because their circumstances have led them there,” she added. The headmistress also emphasised the school’s ongoing struggles due to inadequate infrastructure.
“As a transitional school, when we say ‘transitional,’ it means that the entire year group is not in school at the same time,” she explained. “There is always one year group out while two year groups are in. It is transitional because we do not have enough facilities to accommodate all our students.” She urged that steps be taken to address the infrastructure issues, which would help alleviate the challenges faced by students. “We would urge that we address these issues first, so that at least we can curb some of these challenges,” Mrs Annin-Agyei concluded.
