App Launched to Help Ghanaians Verify Partners’ Marital Status Before Marriage

A new digital application designed to help individuals verify the marital status of prospective partners before entering into marriage has been launched in Ghana. Known as Marrify, the app was officially launched in Accra on August 28, 2026, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP).

Marrify operates as a searchable digital registry aimed at promoting greater transparency in marriage administration. The platform draws legal information from sources including the Registrar-General’s Department, the courts, local assemblies, and the Ghana Gazette.

The initiative is intended to enable individuals to carry out essential background checks before committing to marriage, helping them avoid the emotional, financial, and legal challenges that can result from failing to verify important information about a prospective partner.

In addition to allowing users to check an individual’s marital status, Marrify provides a publicly searchable platform for verifying whether marriage venues, churches, pastors, and Imams are duly licensed and registered to conduct marriages in Ghana.

The initiative is expected to strengthen transparency and accountability in the administration of marriages while empowering prospective couples to make better-informed decisions before taking the significant step of entering into marriage.

Promoting transparency, stronger families

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, commended Marry Right Ghana for introducing an initiative aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and public confidence in marriage administration. She emphasised that marriage extends beyond a legal union, highlighting its social, cultural and economic significance for individuals, children, families and communities.
