The Finance Minister-designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has promised to focus on efficiency and fiscal discipline in the management of state resources. During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dr. Forson highlighted the importance of eliminating wasteful spending in the government as a crucial strategy for stabilizing the nation’s economy.
Dr. Forson expressed his commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s resources are used wisely, emphasizing the need to cut down on wasteful expenditures. “Governance is not simply about borrowing continuously,” he stated. “It’s time to reduce waste, and I will lead this effort.” He also recognized the importance of collaborating with development partners to secure affordable financing when necessary. Dr. Forson assured the Committee that while his primary focus is on reducing waste, he remains open to partnering with others to obtain low-cost funds if the situation requires it.
His remarks highlight a shift in fiscal management priorities, with an emphasis on accountability and sustainability. Dr Forson asserted that his approach aims to rebuild trust in public financial management while addressing the economic challenges facing Ghana.
