As the contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership gathers momentum, Yaa Ansaa Safori, Eastern Region women’s coordinator for Kennedy Agyapong, has commended the former MP for his enduring dedication to grassroots empowerment and job creation. Speaking on The Forum on Asaase Radio on Saturday, 3 January, Safori underscored Agyapong’s consistent support for ordinary party members—particularly delegates and grassroots activists—who, she noted, are often overlooked despite their vital role in securing the party’s electoral successes.
Record
Safori recalled Kennedy Agyapong’s interventions following the 2016 elections, noting his role in securing jobs for key party supporters. She condemned what she described as a prevailing culture of nepotism within the NPP, arguing that it diminishes the sacrifices of grassroots members. “Everyone acknowledges the good works he has done…so if you align with someone but gain no benefit, you must be wise enough to move on,” she remarked.
Safori further pointed out that the party relied on groups such as the Invisible and Delta Forces to safeguard the ballot in 2016, only to later abandon them. “Nepotism is destroying the NPP. Individuals assumed positions, enriched themselves, and ignored the very grassroots that brought us to power,” she added.
Time for jobs
Highlighting Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign pledges, Safori stressed that his vision centers on creating local jobs and driving rural industrial growth, rather than distributing government appointments. She maintained that Agyapong’s grassroots-focused strategy was evident in the 2024 elections, where many Ghanaians signalled their preference for leaders committed to practical development over personal gain.
“He plans to establish more than three factories. What remote communities in Ghana need are factories, not digitalisation,” she asserted, noting that processing local agricultural produce would cut imports and open doors for entrepreneurs. Safori concluded by underscoring Agyapong’s political weight: “With the outcome of the 2024 elections, it’s clear—Ghanaians have spoken. No Kennedy, no vote.”
