Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo‑Addo has appealed to the various factions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to set aside their differences and rally behind the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the 2028 general election approaches. He emphasised that unity across the party’s rank and file will be critical to its bid to return to government, urging newly elected national executives to foster collaboration and bring all factions together.
Akufo‑Addo made the call when NPP Director of Communications aspirant Dennis Miracles Aboagye paid a courtesy visit to formally announce his candidacy in Accra on Wednesday, August 26. He acknowledged that internal contests naturally breed competition but stressed that once the elections conclude, the focus must shift to rebuilding the party and securing victory.
“The elections breed competition; when the die is cast on October 1, and I am confident you will win, you must bring everyone on board and unite all factions behind our flagbearer to ensure he ascends to the presidency in 2029,” he said.
Akufo‑Addo further described the communications portfolio as one of the most demanding areas in the party’s rebuilding efforts, underscoring that effective messaging will be pivotal to the NPP’s success. “To a large extent, whether we prevail or not will depend on the work you are going to do,” he told Mr. Aboagye, adding that the party must seize the opportunity in 2028 to reclaim power.
