NPP’s Communications System Requires Total Overhaul – Boakye Antwi

Eugene Boakye Antwi, a hopeful candidate for the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasised the need for a comprehensive restructuring of the party’s communications and supporting structures to enhance its electoral prospects ahead of the 2028 elections. He advocates that these changes should encompass not only the central communications team but also key groups such as TESCON, Nasara, the women’s wing, and the youth wing.

“We need to restructure all of these areas—communication, TESCON, Nasara, women, and youth,” he stated. Speaking during an appearance on Metro TV’s Good Afternoon Ghana on Tuesday, September 1, Antwi shared that his views are shaped by concerns raised by party members, including those directly involved in its communications.

He noted that he has received many inquiries from communicators regarding the party’s direction, indicating that dissatisfaction with the current structure extends beyond the grassroots level.

Antwi believes the goal should be to clarify and enhance the roles of these various structures, both while the NPP is in opposition and when it is back in government. “I have shown them that I would restructure everything to provide them with a more purposeful role within the party, whether in opposition or in government,” he added.

The centre did not hold

General Secretary hopeful Eugene Boakye Antwi has argued that the New Patriotic Party’s communications challenges stem from deeper structural weaknesses at the national level. He stressed that the problem goes beyond individual communicators, describing the party’s centre as ineffective.

“The centre is not holding. It didn’t hold at all,” he said, adding that this breakdown contributed to the NPP’s poor showing in the 2024 elections.

To rebuild trust and strengthen messaging, Boakye Antwi has proposed a direct communication channel between the party secretariat and grassroots executives, including a call centre to formally record complaints, assign reference numbers, and track resolutions. He emphasised that members should not have to travel to Accra to have their concerns addressed.

He maintained that effective communication will be critical to restoring confidence and preparing the party for the 2028 elections. Boakye Antwi is contesting incumbent General Secretary Justin Kodua in the NPP’s national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026.
