The Ghana Football Association is set to appoint a new head coach for the Black Stars within the next one to two weeks, following an unprecedented response of nearly 600 applications for the role, according to GFA President Kurt Okraku. Speaking publicly for the first time since Otto Addo’s dismissal, Okraku confirmed that the recruitment process is being expedited as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. “We will have a new coach in a week or two,” he stated in an exclusive interview with 3Sports, adding, “We have received over 600 applications for the Black Stars job.”
Addo’s exit was finalised after a late-night meeting in Stuttgart, following a series of disappointing results, including defeats to Austria and Germany. Since then, the FA has begun evaluating a wide pool of both local and international candidates, with several names already linked to the position as efforts continue to stabilise the national team.
Ghana are set to take on Mexico and Wales in May, leaving the incoming coach with limited time to evaluate the squad and implement tactical plans ahead of the World Cup. The Black Stars have been drawn into a tough group featuring Panama, Croatia and England, making a swift and decisive appointment crucial to Ghana’s chances.
