The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved an amendment to its statutes, extending the presidential term limit from two to three terms. This decision was made during the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress held in Prampram. According to Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), this Congress is held annually before the start of the football season to review progress, present financial and activity reports, and set strategic directions for the sport in Ghana.
The 2025 Congress brought together delegates from all 124 member bodies to discuss key governance issues. The approved amendment, which aligns with the statutes of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), allows a GFA president to serve a maximum of three four-year terms, totaling 12 years. The GFA states that this change is intended to promote stability and continuity in leadership, enabling the implementation of long-term development strategies. This reform, reportedly endorsed by FIFA, may directly impact the current GFA President, Kurt Okraku, who is currently in his second term with two years remaining.
