The Ghana Education Service (GES) directorate in the Kassena-Nankana West District has commended a lawyer who responded to an urgent request by students in the area for mathematical sets.

“On behalf of the district director of education, I want to thank the group for carrying out this important assignment on behalf of our brother. Indeed, taking the plight of the students into consideration is very paramount especially in this time of the year.” said the directorate’s deputy officer in charge of finance and administration.

Some students in the area had earlier made appealed to the lawyer for mathematical sets to support them writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Lawyer Raphael Alijina, who hails from Nakolo, upon receiving the appeal has dispatched 1,800 pieces of mathematical sets and 336 pens to the district education directorate for onward distribution to all students in the district sitting for the examination this year.

Moro Taffa, the deputy officer in charge of finance and administration, receiving the items on behalf of the directorate, added that the gesture was timely. He said it was the hope of the directorate the mathematical sets will support the candidates to write the examination well.

He noted that times are tough and Alijina’s gesture would help ease the burden on parents who may not be able to provide some of the essentials required to write the examination comfortably.

“Many parents really cannot afford this and so it is a timely intervention. I hope that this gesture will go a very long way to support our candidates to perform in the BECE so that in the end the gesture would have yielded very positively, anticipated results.”

Sulemana Kukudje, a retired educationist who led a team to make the presentation expressed the interest of Alijina to see improvement in education at the district. He said it was for that reason he quickly responded to the needs of the students.

He urged the directorate to equitably distribute the items while assuring that indigenes would continue to commit themselves to making education in the district better.
