Don’t tamper with health worker postings – Akandoh warns officials

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has cautioned directors and senior officials in the health sector against altering approved postings of health workers, warning that such interference could jeopardise their positions. He emphasised that tampering with officially sanctioned deployment decisions undermines fairness, discipline, and the government’s commitment to equitable distribution of healthcare personnel nationwide.

In a statement shared by the Ministry of Health on Facebook, the Minister issued the warning during an engagement with Catholic Bishops in Ghana, stressing the importance of strict adherence to administrative procedures. He explained that the deployment of health workers is guided by government policy aimed at addressing disparities in healthcare access, particularly in underserved regions and districts.

Priority, he noted, is being given to areas that have historically faced shortages of medical professionals to ensure improved services for communities most in need.

He emphasised that approved postings must be respected by all officials, adding that any changes made outside the established processes could affect the integrity of the system.

Akandoh further urged health sector leaders to support the government’s efforts by promoting transparency and fairness in the management of human resources.

He noted that equitable distribution of health workers remains a key component of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare delivery system and reduce pressure on facilities in major urban centres.
