A new survey by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed strong public backing for the reintroduction of corporal punishment in Ghanaian schools as a measure to curb rising indiscipline among students.
The findings show that 38% of respondents favour corporal punishment, making it the most preferred disciplinary option. Suspension followed with 28%, while 20% supported community service. Nine percent opted for other unspecified methods, and 5% endorsed retrospective justice approaches.
Beyond school discipline, the poll also explored views on examination malpractice. It found that 67% of respondents support publishing photographs of adults convicted of such offences as a deterrent, while 13% opposed the idea and 20% remained neutral.
Global InfoAnalytics noted that the survey, conducted between May 30 and June 12, 2026, sampled 8,784 registered voters across all 16 regions and 84 constituencies, ensuring broad national representation. Out of the total respondents, 1,302 were surveyed online, while 7,484 were engaged through face-to-face interviews across the country.
