Carlos Queiroz is expected to arrive in Ghana this week following his reappointment as head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The 73-year-old Portuguese coach, who guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup during his previous short-term spell in charge, has been handed another opportunity to lead the national team. However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has yet to officially disclose the terms of his new contract.
Queiroz oversaw Ghana’s best World Cup campaign since 2010, guiding the Black Stars into the knockout phase of the tournament in North America. Upon his arrival, he is expected to be formally introduced to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams before meeting the media.
Sources indicate that the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have reached an agreement in principle for Queiroz to sign a one-year contract. The deal is expected to be extended should he successfully lead Ghana to qualification for the 2027 AFCON.
His immediate task will be to prepare the Black Stars for their opening qualifying matches later this month. Ghana will travel to Bouaké to face Côte d’Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix on September 24, before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.
Having missed out on the previous AFCON tournament in Morocco, Ghana will be hoping to secure an immediate return to Africa’s premier international football competition under Queiroz.
