Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has encouraged young people to use digital tools responsibly, cautioning against the spread of prejudice, misinformation and content that could threaten social cohesion.
She noted that although technology and digital platforms can contribute to divisions within society, they can equally be used to promote knowledge, create opportunities and foster peaceful communities.
Speaking at the 2026 West Africa Youth Days in Accra, Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged the youth to make constructive use of digital platforms and emerging technologies to contribute meaningfully to national and societal development.
The event was organised by the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa and hosted in Accra by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
The Vice President also called for sustained efforts to strengthen education and expand opportunities available to young people.
Meanwhile, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, urged the youth to remain courageous and hopeful despite the challenges confronting the West African sub-region.
He identified economic hardship, youth unemployment and violent extremism among the major challenges facing young people, and encouraged them not to succumb to fear, hopelessness or despair.
