Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has bid farewell to Ghana after the team’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging sweeping reforms to secure the long-term future of Ghanaian football. In his reflective parting message following the Round of 32 defeat to Colombia, the Portuguese tactician expressed pride in his tenure while affirming his belief that the Black Stars possess the potential to reach even greater heights.
“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination; it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions,” he said.
Looking beyond the World Cup, Queiroz emphasized that Ghana’s football ambitions can only be fulfilled if equal focus is placed on strengthening the structures that underpin the national team. He maintained that true success must begin off the pitch—through sound planning, preparation, and investment in player development.
‘The future of the Black Stars will not be built solely on the field. Success must start away from it, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect, and nurture Ghana’s extraordinary football talent,’ he noted. Reflecting on the campaign, Queiroz described the World Cup journey as a valuable learning experience, urging that setbacks should serve as motivation for improvement rather than discouragement
“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn.” The Black Stars coach also expressed appreciation to the Ghana Football Association for entrusting him with the national team. “To my President and Board, thank you for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honour and privilege.”
He reserved special praise for his players and technical staff, thanking them for their dedication and commitment throughout the tournament. To my players and staff, my deepest gratitude for your courage, commitment and dedication.” In his message to Ghanaians, Queiroz acknowledged the disappointment of the team’s World Cup exit but maintained that the Black Stars had regained respect on the international stage.
“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”
