Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the race to lead the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections, according to a new poll conducted by Global Info Analytics and released on August 21, 2025. The survey indicates that Dr. Bawumia holds 52% support among NPP delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primaries, giving him a significant advantage over his competitors.
His closest challenger, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, trails with 17%. Other candidates performed poorly, with Dr. Bryan Acheampong receiving 3%, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum getting 1%, and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo each receiving less than 1%.

The poll also found that 10% of delegates remain undecided, while 9% declined to reveal their choice, leaving room for late shifts as the primaries approach. Global Info Analytics surveyed 2,656 NPP delegates, with 2,560 completing all responses, across 263 constituencies between August 12 and 20, using computer-assisted telephone interviews. The poll carries a confidence level of 99% and a margin of error of ±2.44%. While the numbers confirm Dr. Bawumia’s dominant position, analysts caution that consolidating undecided delegates will be critical to sealing victory in the upcoming contest.
