The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced temporary water supply interruptions in several parts of western Accra following technical challenges at the Weija Water Treatment Plant that have affected water production and distribution. In a press release issued on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the state-owned water utility disclosed that the technical challenges have led to erratic water supply and low water pressure in multiple communities across the western corridor of the capital.
Affected areas include Dansoman, Mamprobi, Mataheko, Laterbiokorshie, Korle-Bu, La Paz, MacCarthy Hill, Gbawe, Mallam, Tesano, Darkuman, North Kaneshie, Dome, Achimota, Anyaa, Ablekuma, and surrounding communities. The disruption affects both residential neighbourhoods and critical institutions, including the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital complex.
Engineers are working to restore the supply
The management assured the public that engineers and technical teams are working assiduously to rectify the challenges and restore normal water supply as early as practicable. However, no specific timeline was provided for full restoration. Consumers have been advised to store water anytime there is flow in their communities to help manage the temporary disruption. Essential service providers, including health facilities, have been encouraged to liaise with their Assembly Members or contact the GWL Call Centre for assistance.
