Police in the Central Region have arrested six men accused of impersonating security officers and allegedly harassing Chinese nationals at a manufacturing company near Agona Swedru.
The suspects were picked up on Tuesday after reports indicated that a group dressed in military and immigration uniforms stormed S.I Jun Manufacturing Company Limited at Agona Akwakwa, near Mankrong Nkwanta. According to police, the men arrived in a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GW 8887 V and claimed to be National Security operatives.
Investigators revealed that three of the suspects were wearing Ghana Immigration Service camouflage uniforms, one was in military attire, while two others were in plain clothes. The group is alleged to have assaulted and harassed Chinese nationals at the premises.
A police team dispatched to the scene found three Chinese nationals — identified as Man Guan, Chin Min, and Ma Kaixiang — in handcuffs. The six suspects were immediately arrested and are currently in custody at the Agona Swedru District Police Headquarters.
They were identified as Agyemang Benjamin, 32, Mahama Iddrisu Dawuda Seidu, 48, Ofori Isaac, 35, Adom Bills, 32, Hayford Boafo, 47, and Ato Mchenry, 48. Police said the Military Police, the Ghana Immigration Service and National Security had been contacted to verify the identities of the suspects.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
