The Ghana Police Service has announced a temporary three-day restriction, prohibiting transit concrete mixer trucks from operating on roads within Accra and Tema. This restriction is in effect from Friday, August 28, to Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The decision was made following a stakeholder meeting led by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The meeting, organised under the National Security Secretariat, brought together truck owners and operators to discuss compliance with road safety and traffic regulations.
During this engagement, stakeholders expressed concerns about the frequent spillage of concrete and other materials from trucks onto public roads. This spillage creates significant issues, obstructing traffic, posing hazards to motorists and pedestrians, and damaging road surfaces.
In response, police authorities have warned operators to ensure that materials are securely contained and not discharged onto roads during deliveries. The three-day suspension aims to facilitate the clearing and cleaning of road surfaces affected by accumulated concrete and debris.
The police have emphasised that concrete mixer trucks are strictly prohibited from conducting deliveries within Accra during this period. Any vehicle found in violation of this directive will face immediate legal action. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highways Authority, as well as concrete mixer truck owners and operators.
