Nana Akomea Files to Contest NPP First Vice Chairmanship

Former Information Minister and ex‑Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has officially filed his nomination to contest the position of First Vice Chairman in the party’s upcoming national executive elections.

Akomea, who represented Okaikwei South in Parliament from 1997 to 2013 and served as Information Minister under President John Agyekum Kufuor, brings extensive political and communications experience to the race. He also held the role of NPP Communications Director and led the party’s communications during the 2016 presidential campaign that returned the NPP to power.

Political observers describe his bid as strategic, given the influence of the vice‑chairmanship role and its potential to position its occupant for future leadership. The NPP is preparing for its 2026 national executive elections, with 13 aspirants vying for the three vice‑chairmanship slots. Vetting is scheduled for September 1, ahead of elections in October. Akomea’s entry is expected to add weight and experience to what is shaping up to be a competitive contest.
