“Old Ken fought, new Ken will build” – Agyapong rebrands

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent figure and businessman within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has indicated a change in his approach as he aims to become the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 election. He promises a commitment to “focused action” rather than his usual fiery rhetoric.

“You know me. You’ve heard me speak my mind for years. I’ve always spoken from the heart, sometimes with passion, because I love this country,” Agyapong stated in a social media post on Sunday. “But I’ve also listened. I’ve come to understand that the skills needed to identify a problem are different from the skills needed to solve it.”

In his message, Agyapong quoted scripture to suggest that he is entering a new phase in his political career. He, known for his blunt and confrontational style, framed this change as an evolution in his approach. “The old Ken fought for you. The new Ken will build with you to create a better Ghana for our youth and the next generation.”

The NPP, now in opposition after losing the 2024 vote to President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to choose its flagbearer next year.

Agyapong faces competition from four party heavyweights in a contest that will test his ability to broaden his appeal beyond his reputation as an outspoken critic.
