The Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party has appointed a five-member ad hoc committee to ensure that the upcoming flagbearer race proceeds in an orderly manner as the party prepares for its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026. This decision was announced in a statement signed by Council Chairman Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, following consultations with all the presidential hopefuls held on September 11, 2025.
The committee is mandated to:
- Monitor the remarks, behaviour and activities of aspirants and their followers.
- Receive and examine petitions about abusive language, hate speech or personal attacks.
- Recommend corrective or disciplinary measures to protect the NPP’s unity and reputation.
The group, chaired by Ing. Kwasi Abeasi, consists of Alex Glover-Quartey, Ato Hamilton, Kwadwo Afari, and Mark Opoku. The council has urged aspirants, campaign teams, and supporters to cooperate fully. “The Party is committed to conducting a primary process that is peaceful, respectful, and dignified, ultimately strengthening our unity and readiness for the national elections,” stated the announcement.
