It’s too early for a load-shedding timetable – ECG PRO

Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, the General Manager for External Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), stated that it is premature to introduce a load-shedding timetable, despite recent fluctuations in power supply in certain areas of the country. His remarks come in light of public concerns regarding intermittent electricity availability, which authorities have attributed to ongoing repair and maintenance work on critical transmission infrastructure following the fire incident at the Akosombo GRIDCo substation.

In an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, April 26, Dr. Ayiku explained that current challenges are being addressed through active restoration efforts on the transmission network. He noted that engineers are working diligently to stabilise the system and restore full power supply, with some regions already experiencing improved electricity access. He expressed his belief that it is too early to consider implementing a formal load-shedding timetable, given the ongoing efforts to resolve the situation.

The current situation at the Akosombo GRIDCo substation is a work in progress, with significant efforts being made. I can confirm that there is a resolution in place. Some regions of the country have resumed full power supply, while efforts continue to restore other lines.

In my personal opinion—not reflecting the views of my company—I believe it is premature to call for a load-shedding timetable at this stage. The engineers have assured us that we will soon return to full power supply.

I urge the public to remain calm and to trust that our engineers are diligently working to fully restore stable power in the coming days. Once again, I encourage everyone to stay calm and reassured that the situation is under control. If, after some time, there is no improvement, we can then consider implementing a timetable. However, as it stands now, there is hope on the horizon.
