Gov’t to scrap Covid-19 levy in 2026 budget statement on Thursday

The Minister for Finance is set to present the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, November 14, 2025. This important presentation will detail the government’s revenue and expenditure estimates for the 2026 fiscal year, along with key policy measures aimed at stabilizing the economy and promoting sustainable growth.

The 2026 budget is expected to focus on strategies to support Ghana’s economic recovery under the IMF-supported program, address inflation, create jobs, and enhance local production capacity. In anticipation of the presentation, various stakeholders, including business associations, labour unions, and civil society organisations, have expressed high expectations.

They are calling for pragmatic and realistic policies that prioritise social welfare, debt sustainability, and fiscal discipline. Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, who announced the presentation date in Parliament, urged members to prepare for a thorough and constructive debate on the budget once it is laid before the House. Parliament is expected to commence discussions in the coming weeks before approving the financial policy to pave the way for implementation beginning January 2026.
