The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has ordered the immediate closure of the Tamale Technical University Hospital due to serious safety and infection prevention concerns. In a statement released on Monday, November 10, HeFRA indicated that intelligence reports, supported by video and photographic evidence, revealed that healthcare services at the facility were being provided in unsafe and unhygienic conditions.
A follow-up inspection by the Agency’s Compliance and Enforcement Directorate on Monday, November 3, 2025, confirmed these reports and further revealed that the hospital had been operating with an expired license, violating the Health Institutions and Facilities Act of 2011 (Act 829).
As a result, HeFRA has mandated that the hospital remain closed starting Friday, November 7, 2025, until all identified safety issues and infection control problems have been addressed. The facility has also been fined GHS35,000 and instructed to regularise its licensing status before resuming operations.
