The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has issued a directive to all heads of government institutions, requesting detailed staff information added to their payrolls since Saturday, 7th December 7, 2024. This move aligns with the ongoing efforts under the John Mahama administration to “ensure the accuracy and integrity of government payroll records.”
In the January 15 letter, Mr Debrah emphasised the importance of this exercise, stating that “this information is critical to maintaining transparency and accountability in our payroll management processes.” Heads of institutions have been asked to submit specific details for each staff member added within the specified period, including:
- Full Name
- Designation/Job Title
- Employee Identification Number (if applicable)
- Date of Appointment
- Date Added to Payroll
Institutions are required to submit the requested data to the Chief of Staff’s office no later than Friday, 31st January 2025. “Your cooperation in this important matter is highly appreciated,” Mr Debrah noted, underscoring the significance of the exercise in curbing payroll-related inefficiencies.
The letter also invites institutions to request additional clarification if necessary, guaranteeing that support will remain available during the process. This initiative aligns with the government’s wider strategy to remove ghost names from the payroll and improve financial management in the public sector. Stakeholders are encouraged to adhere to the directive swiftly to improve payroll accuracy and avert any financial leakages.
