The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Wassa Amenfi West Municipality has reported the collapse of more than 24 buildings after severe flooding submerged large sections of Samreboi and Asankragwa in the Western Region. The disaster, triggered by heavy rainfall on Sunday, caused Rivers Samre and Tano to overflow their banks, inundating homes, schools, churches, and other properties across the affected communities.
Municipal NADMO Director, Elvis Koffie, told Channel One News that while no fatalities had been recorded, the floods have inflicted extensive damage on homes and livelihoods. He noted that arrangements have been made to provide temporary shelter for displaced residents.
Currently, significant portions of Samreboi remain underwater, with several communities and suburbs—including Popolazo, Cocoaase, Clubakyi, Roman Hill, Aboisie, and Nsuoso—cut off and inaccessible due to the floodwaters.
Residents who managed to relocate to safer areas described the devastation as one of the worst in recent years, noting that the last time they experienced flooding of a similar magnitude was in 2017. NADMO officials continue to assess the extent of the destruction as affected families await relief and support.
