Three people have been killed and nine others injured in renewed gunfire linked to the protracted ethnic conflict in the Nkwanta South Municipality. The incident, which occurred on Friday, has led to the imposition of a curfew in the municipality. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Saint Joseph’s Hospital morgue.
Following advice from the National Security Council, the Ministry of the Interior has announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m., covering eight communities in the area. The conflict, rooted in a long-standing land dispute among the Adele, Akyode, and Challa peoples, has persisted for years despite efforts to resolve it. Communities affected include Nkwanta, Bonakye, Odomi, Nyankoma, Power, Kromase, Shiare, Nyambo, Abrewanko, and Keri.
