The Ministry of Finance has officially inaugurated the Gold Board Tribunal, a newly established body under the Ghana Gold Board Act of 2025. This tribunal is tasked with handling appeals that arise from decisions made by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). During a ceremony in Accra, Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson administered the oaths of office to Chairperson Biadala Mortey Akpadzi, along with members Hamidu Mariam and Justin Pwavra Teriwajah.
The tribunal will operate as an independent appellate body, with its decisions carrying the same legal weight as those of a High Court judgment. Additionally, appeals from the tribunal’s rulings may be taken to the Court of Appeal. Dr. Forson emphasised that the establishment of the tribunal will enhance transparency and due process within the gold sector. He urged the members to maintain integrity, fairness, and high professional standards.
The GoldBod Tribunal will convene as necessary to review appeals related to licensing and disputes that are initially addressed by the Dispute Resolution Committee. Its structure includes expertise in law, minerals, and commerce, ensuring credible adjudication in matters related to mining.
Chairperson Akpadzi pledged the tribunal’s commitment to impartiality and public accountability, noting that appeals will be handled “with the seriousness they deserve.”
The inauguration marks a major step in streamlining dispute resolution in Ghana’s gold sector and strengthening regulatory governance.
