The Ghana National Gas Company has announced that it has repaired a fault at one of its plants which recently caused power outages due to gas supply shortages. On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the company confirmed a complete failure of the Burner Management System (BMS) controller for the Heat Medium System (HMS). Initial assessments revealed extensive damage, requiring a full replacement of the system.
The disruption in gas supply to thermal plants led to intermittent electricity challenges across parts of the country. In response, engineers deployed a manual operating system to keep the plant running while awaiting the installation of a replacement device.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with TV3 on Friday, April 17, 2026, Head of Corporate Affairs Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah disclosed that a new controller has been procured and will soon be installed to restore full automation.
“As of 8 p.m. on April 15, the plant resumed operations and has since been producing steadily. At present, we are delivering 115 mm to the power plant,” he stated.
“The simple message I want to put across is there’s no cause for alarm. “We are very competent technical team that puts their technical brain together, and they were able to start the plant using the manual system approach, which is why we are producing,” he stated.
“Even though management swiftly made provisions for the replacement of the faulty gadget. The replacement is on the way to the site for fixing so that we can come back to normalcy with the automated system,” he added.
