The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has confiscated 40 vehicles at the Tema Harbour after an intelligence-led operation uncovered the use of fake Drive from Port (DP) stickers. In a statement dated Friday, April 17, the Authority revealed that additional checks also revealed instances where genuine DP stickers were affixed to vehicles with details that did not match the official records.
Initial investigations indicate that CFAO is the importer of the affected vehicles. However, the DVLA stated that a clearing agent acting on behalf of the company allegedly employed unlawful means, resulting in the identified irregularities. The Authority noted that suspicions were first raised due to an unusual drop in DP sticker issuance at the ports, which prompted a deeper investigation and ultimately led to the operation.
It explained that prior to the decline, DP sticker issuance had surged significantly, from an average of 2,000 monthly to about 15,000 in October 2025, making the sudden drop a cause for concern.
The DVLA said it is currently working with National Security to fully investigate the development and tighten controls to prevent similar infractions within the vehicle importation and registration chain.
“The Authority underscores the critical importance of accurate vehicle data in ensuring road safety, enhancing traceability, and supporting effective transport policy decisions. Maintaining data integrity from the point of entry through to final registration remains a key priority,” the statement said
It also called on importers and industry players to remain vigilant and comply with laid-down procedures, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the credibility of Ghana’s vehicle registration system.
