The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has sued the government over its failure to complete the 200 Community Day Senior High School (SHS) projects initiated by the John Mahama administration.
The MP, in his writ, argued that the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) failure to complete the projects constitutes misuse and waste of public funds and property.
He is therefore demanding an order directing the government to complete the project.
Mr. Dafeamekper is also seeking a declaration that “the government’s failure to make use of all the 46 community senior high schools constructed by the previous government constitutes a contravention of Articles 35(7) and 41(f) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.”
Former President Mahama during the 2012 electioneering campaign, promised to build 200 new Community Day SHSs in under-served communities across the country, to enhance access to education.
The Mahama administration, however, failed to complete all 200 Senior High Schools before the end of 2016, constructing about 46 school blocks before leaving office.
In 2019, the then Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh disclosed the government’s plans to cancel all contents of Community Day Senior High School projects that had not commenced yet.

A declaration that the Defendant’s failure to continue and complete the project to build two hundred community senior high schools constitutes misuse and waste of public funds and property and is in contravention of Articles 35(7) and 41(f) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
A declaration that the Defendant’s failure to make use of all the forty-six community senior high schools constructed by the previous government constitutes misuse and waste of public funds and property and is in contravention of Articles 35(7) and 41(f) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
An order directing the Government of Ghana to complete the project to build two hundred community senior high schools within a reasonable time.
An order directing the Government of Ghana to utilize all the forty-six community senior high schools for teaching and learning.
Costs including legal fees.
