Bagbin approves NIB’s request to interrogate two MPs

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has approved a request from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to interrogate two Members of Parliament (MPs): Mustapha Yussif, the MP for Yagaba Kubori, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), the MP for Gomoa Central. This request pertains to a matter that has not been disclosed.

In a letter dated April 2, 2025, and signed by Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah DjiEtror, Parliament acknowledged the request while citing Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution, which outline the privileges and limitations of MPs concerning legal and security matters. The letter noted that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, considered the security protocols and the public interest before approving the request.

As a result, the two MPs have been directed to make themselves available for a preliminary interaction with NIB officials on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will take place at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room in the Office of the Speaker. Both MPs have been advised to have their lawyers present during the session.

The letter also instructed NIB officials to coordinate with Parliament’s Legal Services Office for assistance upon arrival. Copies of the communication were sent to the Speaker, the Majority and Minority Leaders, as well as the MPs involved.
