Michael Ayitey Okai, better known as Ayitey Powers, has been remanded in police custody for one week following allegations that he issued a death threat against Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA). The Dansoman Circuit Court ordered the remand on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, after Ayitey Powers appeared before the court in connection with his arrest.
He was detained by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, 24 August, after a video surfaced on social media purportedly showing him threatening Ampofo Ankrah’s life. His arrest came after the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) called for his arrest and prosecution over the alleged remarks.
Police investigations are ongoing. Ayitey Powers is scheduled to reappear before the Dansoman Circuit Court on 2 September 2026. The allegations have not yet been proven in court.
