President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, to serve as Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives at the Office of the President. The announcement, made in a statement signed by Minister for Government Communications Felix Ofosu Kwakye on Wednesday, confirmed the reshuffle.
Dr Pelpuo will be succeeded at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment by Emmanuel Agyekum, who previously held the Special Initiatives portfolio. These changes are part of a wider set of new appointments within the Mahama administration.
With this reshuffle, Dr Pelpuo takes over Special Initiatives at the Presidency from Mr Agyekum, while Mr Agyekum assumes leadership of the Labour, Jobs and Employment Ministry. An official announcement from the presidency is expected soon.
This latest round of changes follows a recent cabinet reshuffle in which Kenneth Gilbert Adjei was transferred from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence, and Ahmed Ibrahim was moved from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to Works, Housing and Water Resources.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has also been removed from his position and reassigned to the Presidency as a Special Advisor. Mr Brogya Genfi had served as Deputy Minister of Defence during a period of transition at the ministry following the appointment of Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as substantive Minister for Defence earlier this month.
