A Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing on Monday morning at Nkawkaw, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region. According to available information, the aircraft, a Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW, was en route from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by harsh weather conditions in the area. Sources from Citi News at the scene confirmed that both the pilot and crew members are safe.
An eyewitness reported seeing the helicopter “moving slowly in the sky. It went up, descended slightly, and then moved backwards” before landing within the community. This sighting prompted local residents to rush to the scene. The series of events, particularly the ongoing issues with the 9G-AFW helicopter and a recent deadly crash, is raising public concern and prompting calls for a thorough review of aviation safety protocols in the country.
