President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana’s full quota of 5,960 pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj has been filled. Speaking at the commissioning of the Akweteyman Central Mosque in Accra, he urged prospective pilgrims to cooperate fully with the Hajj Board and other relevant authorities.
He advised those unable to register due to the quota being reached to exercise patience and prepare for the 2027 pilgrimage. “This year, we were allocated a quota of 5,960, and the price was reduced to 60,000. My last meeting with the Hajj Committee confirmed that the quota has been filled. We do not want the usual situation where people delay payment and request last-minute reopening of registration, as that often creates problems and excludes some applicants. Those who missed out will have to wait until next year,” he explained.
The President expressed optimism that the Airport Transit Terminal, currently under construction by the Ghana Airports Company Limited, will be completed by 2027, assuring pilgrims of a more comfortable transit experience. In the meantime, mandatory medical examinations and screenings for prospective pilgrims are set to commence on Monday, February 2. The exercise will be carried out in collaboration with designated medical teams to safeguard the health and safety of all intending pilgrims ahead of the sacred journey.
