Pressure group Arise Ghana has called for the repatriation of South African nationals living in Ghana in response to ongoing xenophobic attacks against Ghanaians and other African nationals in South Africa. In a statement issued on June 1, the group emphasised the need to review the presence of South African nationals in Ghana as part of broader efforts to address what it describes as persistent violence and hostility toward African migrants abroad.
The statement declared, “South African nationals residing in Ghana for business or other purposes must return to their home country so that we can comprehensively address the challenges facing our beloved country, Ghana.”
A group is urging Ghana to take stronger action against countries where its citizens face repeated attacks, intimidation, and displacement, particularly in South Africa, where many Ghanaians live in fear. The group, Arise Ghana, condemned what it described as a persistent pattern of xenophobic violence and a lack of accountability for those responsible, despite multiple diplomatic efforts.
They called on the Ghanaian government to seek legal action through African Union mechanisms, including the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, to obtain justice for the victims of these attacks. The group also commended the Ghanaian government and the officials in the Foreign Affairs Ministry for facilitating the return of approximately 300 Ghanaians from South Africa and for providing support for their reintegration.
