Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has revealed that findings from a recent survey suggest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primary is expected to be far more competitive than the 2023 contest. In the 2023 primaries, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won convincingly with 61.47 percent of the votes, while his closest rival, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, garnered 37.4 percent. Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, December 27, ahead of the January 31, 2026, primary, Mr. Dankwah noted, “This election will be closer than the last time.”
A December survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics shows that Dr Bawumia is edging closer to the victory threshold. Five candidates, including the former Vice President, are contesting the primary. According to the poll, Dr Bawumia—who has led the organisation’s monthly surveys since they began—remains in a commanding position and has moved closer to the 50 per cent mark with one month left to the election.
In the “likely voters” survey, Dr Bawumia leads with 45 per cent, followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 31 per cent. Bryan Acheampong polled 3 per cent, while Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum and Kwabena Agyapong recorded near-zero support.
Although Dr. Bawumia maintains a lead, a notable share of delegates remain uncommitted. The survey revealed that 20 percent of respondents were either undecided or declined to state their voting preference. Conducted via random computer-assisted telephone interviews with approximately 3,000 delegates, the poll showed Mr. Agyapong gaining 13 percentage points since November, while Dr. Bawumia’s support rose by two points, edging him closer to the 50 percent mark.
