Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has acknowledged that 2025 has posed significant challenges for the government in managing the economy, describing the year as particularly tough for the country’s economic team. In an interview with Joy FM on Thursday, July 24—shortly after presenting the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Statement to Parliament—Dr. Ato Forson admitted the severity of these challenges but emphasised that the economic management team remains focused and committed to addressing them.
“This year has been difficult; perhaps we haven’t fully communicated that. It has been challenging for us, the economic managers,” he stated. “We are dedicated and actively dealing with the situation.”
His remarks come as the Mahama-led administration continues its efforts to stabilise the economy, improve public financial management, and build on recent progress in key macroeconomic indicators. Earlier in Parliament, the Finance Minister unveiled a series of fiscal and structural reforms aimed at revitalising growth and enhancing the country’s economic resilience. Despite the ongoing hardships, Dr. Ato Forson reiterated the government’s commitment to steering the nation toward recovery and long-term stability.
