Mom Daughter Discipline

As a parent, you need to be very careful of what you say to your child. Sometimes your words may do more harm than any good. Here are some statements that every parent must avoid using on their children.

That’s not how you do it, learn from your brother.

Rather than teaching them how to perform a certain activity, if you compare them to their brothers or sisters, they will feel insecure and demoralized.

Look at your friend, he is good at everything.

Comparing your child with others especially their friends only increase animosity and jealousy. Every child is unique and special in their own, so, therefore, help them get better at doing things their own way instead of comparing them to their friends.

Why can’t you be more like your sister?

Children can be different in many aspects, they have unique personalities. Discouraging a child to embrace his or her personality can make them feel dejected and ashamed

Stop crying Like It Is the end of the world.

Never discourage your child from expressing his or her emotions even when it’s through crying. It helps them get over things that are hurting them.

I am so tired of dealing with you.

Parents need to make children feel welcomed rather than making them feel like a disappointment. Saying this to your child will make him/her feels like he/she is a bother or trouble to you. And this may lead to that child coiling in without not opening up to you. That child may feel they are not that important to you.

Stop being such a baby.

No matter how grown your child is they will always expect you to treat them well.

I don’t understand why I even bother with you.

Never sound dismayed or disappointed with your child they are probably do everything in their mind to make you happy.

That’s not just good enough.

As long as your child is trying, you must show appreciation and acknowledge their efforts. Never discourage them or make them feel like they are not trying their best. Try to encourage, motivate and appreciate them. By so doing, they will be confident enough to keep trying.

Call them beautiful when you can.

Don’t ever say that a person has to look a certain way to be beautiful. They learn from you. They listen to you. Your opinions form theirs, so be careful about what you’re teaching them. Parents, please be very, very careful when saying anything about your child’s appearance.

Only ever comment on their body if it’s health-related. Only suggest your child gets braces if they can’t chew properly anymore, only encourage some weight loss if they are unhealthily overweight, and so on.

A small comment about their appearance, even as a joke, can destroy their self-esteem and confidence. The impact can be long lasting and extremely damaging. Never joke about your child’s appearance. Never make negative comments about their body. Never make them feel like they could look better.
